The Role of Circuitry in Your Chart
The gates and channels in the Human Design Bodygraph are connected to one another through circuitry. Circuitry describes the way that energy circulates throughout the chart. It’s what ties the 36 channels together and gives the Bodygraph its infrastructure.
There are 3 main circuit groups with 2 sub-circuits within each of the main circuit groups that describe the routes that the energy flows within the chart:
- Individual (Empowerment)
💡 Knowing
🧘♀️ Centering - Tribal (Support)
♥️ Ego
💪 Defense - Collective (Sharing)
🧠 Understanding (Logical)
🌙 Sensing (Abstract/ Experiential)
There is also a collection of channels known as the Integration Channels, which stands alongside the other 3 main circuits in the body. These 4 channels (10-20, 20-34, 34-57 and 57-10) are responsible for differentiating ourselves from others and fuels the evolutionary process. They’re focused on self empowerment and preservation of individual nature, expression, identity, and life direction.
In your chart, you might have a circuit group that is more prominent within your chart. If you have access to a pro account on Genetic Matrix, you call pull your Quantum Data 1 chart to see the number of activations in each circuit and the integration channels.
Things to look for in the Quantum Data chart in relationship to the circuitry in your chart include:
Is there a circuit that is more prominent in the chart?
Is there one that has little to no activations?
How might these different things support one another or create challenges?
Above is my Quantum Data Chart. If you look in the “Energy Families” section, you can see that I have 8 tribal gates (tribal + defense), 9 collective gates (logical + abstract) and 9 individual gates (individual + centering). This is a pretty balanced distribution between the 3 main circuit groups.
This can come with its own unique challenges as I feel pulled to fulfill the role of each of these circuit groups, which can sometimes feel at odds with one another.
For example, I have 2 tribal channels (54-32 and 44-26) and my Personality Sun, which is a line 6 so it's focused on the entire circuitry, is in gate 54. This often feels at odds with the individual energy within my chart, because the tribe isn’t concerned with the individual- its concerned with the survival of the community.
With having so much individual and tribal energy, I feel this tension between needing to express myself authentically and follow my own path and also desiring to be a part of a community and support others. I used to believe that I had to compromise parts of my individuality in order to be accepted by others.
What I am learning through having to balance this energy within my chart is that when I am my authentic self, I will attract the right people who are supposed to be a part of my community.
I don’t need to compromise who I am to be accepted by those on my fractal line. And when I begin to attract the right people into my community, I can share with them the patterns that I’ve witnessed through the logical part of my chart and the wisdom gained from the experiences in the abstract part of my chart.

When exploring the 64 gates and 36 channels, it can be really helpful to understand the circuit that they belong to. When you understand the main role and purpose of each of the circuits, you can start to see how that energy manifests in each of the gates and channels and how they are interconnected.
Each of the 3 main circuit groups has a keynote that describes the main purpose and role of the channels within it.
The main keynote for the Individual Circuit is Empowerment.
This is the most complex circuit because it is the only one that encompasses all 9 centers. The role of the Individual Circuit is to empower the individual to be themselves and follow their own unique path in life. This is the passion for being true to yourself and living independent of external norms or pressure.
These people often go against the status quo and are creative rebels. As an individual, you're not here to be told what to do or be influenced by others. You can often feel like an outsider or like you don't belong in society. Through you living as your authentic self, you ensure the survival of the totality.
The Individual Circuit is about being attuned to the present moment and can be extremely creative and innovative. It also has the potential for melancholy when that energy isn't present.
The main keynote for the Tribal Circuit is Support.
It’s the smallest of the 3 main circuit groups, only going through 6 of 9 centers. The Tribal Circuit does not include gates or channels in the Head, Ajna, or G-center.
The Tribe is focused on family and the immediate community. It’s sensitive to the basic needs of the group and establishing equilibrium in the material world. This circuit contains the energy for everything that’s needed to support and defend the tribe, including love, war, sexuality, partnership, laws, rules, values, business, bargains, and creating and managing resources.
This can be an energy of caring to a fault. It’s naturally nurturing and is very primal. Those with a lot of Tribal Circuitry might feel pressure to give up their identity for their community.
This circuit also contains the energy of sales and marketing, truth and integrity, converting something of value in exchange.
The main keynote for the Collective Circuit is Sharing.
The Collective Circuit goes through every center except for the Heart Center. These are inherently social gates/channels that are responsible for driving the collective consciousness forward by sharing what has been learned through experimentation and experience.
This circuit determines what is good for the collective rather than a specific individual because it’s focused on discovering the greater good for all of humanity.
It includes the energy of logic and the scientific approach and the energy of sensing and the experiential approach- both of which are needed for understanding our experience of life and for predicting patterns so we can improve life for the collective. Because the collective is rooted in knowledge, logic, and experience, it evolves very slowly.
The Individual Circuit is acoustic, the Collective is visual, and the Tribe is tactile. If you have a prominent circuit group in your chart, you might notice that you gravitate towards one of these senses.
For example, if you have a lot of individual circuitry, you're someone who benefits from hearing things, whether this is having someone who will listen to you, soundboarding or learning things through audio. Tribal people need to be touched and to connect with people in person where Collective people need visual stimulation.
There is no circuit that is better than another. Each one is valuable and needed.
One thing that we learn through the exploration of circuitry is that change, evolution and mutation start at the individual level, then move to the tribe, and finally to the collective.
Those with a lot of Individual energy are here to be different, innovative, creative and empower others through just being themselves.
Those with a lot of Tribal energy are here to take the innovations and mutations that occurred on the individual level and see if they are useful for the community. If the tribe finds it useful, it will eventually spread to the collective.
Those with a lot of Collective energy are here to spread and give infrastructure to those changes and innovations that are beneficial to humanity and incorporate them into our human experience.
