Inner Authority is one of the first things that you learn about in Human Design and is one of the foundational elements in activating the unique genius within you.
However, Inner Authority is often taught in a "one-size fits all" way, which makes it challenging for many people to start experimenting with this aspect of their design because it doesn’t operate in the same way it was described to them.
When I first discovered Human Design, I didn’t resonate with being a Generator and having Sacral Authority. I figured that I must have the wrong birth time, because I honestly thought I was a Reflector.
But after I checked my birth certificate and confirmed I had the right chart, I was stuck trying to figure out why I didn’t resonate with being a Sacral Generator.
I was constantly being told that I just needed to ask my Sacral yes and no questions to make a decision and that it should be something that happens in the moment.
I struggled to get a response in the moment to yes and no questions. I also felt like I needed more time to make decisions, even though I was being told I should be able to make them in the moment.
The problem is that when Inner Authority is taught in a one-size-fits-all way, it doesn’t take into consideration all of the nuances within someones design such as:

The channel(s) that define your Inner Authority

If those channels are conscious, unconscious, or half/half
-
The circuitry that your authority channel is a part of
-
If you have a single or split definition
All of these things contribute to how you will experience your Inner Authority.
This is my Quantum Component Chart that shows the design of my Body (Design), Mind (Personality) and Quantum (both together).
As you can see, I am a conscious and unconscious Reflector. All 4 of my channels are defined half consciously and half unconsciously. I also have a wide split in my design, which gives some nuance to my decision making process.
This is why I’ve never resonated with generalized definitions of what it means to be a Generator with Sacral Authority. When you understand these nuances, you can see why I would need more time to make a decision than someone else with Sacral Authority who is single definition and has a conscious channel defining their Sacral.
The purpose of Inner Authority is to teach you how to make decisions that are individually correct for you and to learn to trust in yourself to make decisions instead of giving that power away to something or someone external.
The mind is not designed to be the decision maker or be in control of your life. It’s designed to observe life as a relaxed and reflective passenger so it can enjoy the ride and eventually fulfill its true role as an Outer Authority for others.
Outer Authority is how the mind uses its gifts and wisdom to be of service to others once it has been liberated from being the decision maker.
This is the true power and purpose of the mind that is often not discussed or ignored in Human Design. The mind is often villianized because it’s not designed to be the decision maker, however this does not mean that it doesn’t have its own unique role and purpose.
