The Nuances of Your Inner Authority

Inner Authority is one of the first things that you learn about in Human Design and is one of the foundational elements in activating the unique genius within you.

There is so much magic that is unlocked when you start to make decisions as yourself. Following strategy and authority allows you to move through the world with the least amount of resistance.

This doesn’t mean that you’ll never ever face challenges again.  However, it allows you to trust that everything the Monopole is attracting into your life is helping you fulfill your unique trajectory.

This is about honoring the form principle- tuning into the wisdom of our own body.

“We are a form principle, and when a form principle is moving in space, if it’s meeting resistance, it begins to deteriorate. Whether that’s psychic or physical, the deterioration just adds to the discomfort of being here.” - Ra Uru Hu

Part of following your inner authority is learning to trust in the power of the magnetic Monopole. Your body is the vehicle that you experience life through and the Monopole is the driver of that vehicle. The vehicle and the driver are in a relationship with one another.

However, it can be challenging to actually connect with, trust in, and follow your Inner Authority, especially if you’ve been conditioned for decades to make decisions using your mind or through the not-self.

There are so many things that can interfere with your ability to even start connecting with your Inner Authority.  Before you can start to trust and follow in your authority, you need to be able to connect with it and actually hear what it is saying.

These are some of the things that can make it challenging to connect with your Inner Authority:

  • Don't feel safe in your body
  • Disconnected/ dissociated from your body
  • Experienced trauma connected to your body
  • History of disordered eating and challenging relationship with your body
  • Purity culture- which can result in feeling like your body is evil, bad, unclean and not to be trusted
  • Conditioning to make decisions based on logic and reasoning
  • Conditioning of open/ undefined centers
  • Split in your definition
  • Channel(s) that defined your authority are unconscious or half conscious/ half unconscious

I believe that there is often some healing work that needs to be done before someone can really start to experience the benefits that Human Design has to offer.  This prerequisite work should be focused on establishing a feeling of safety and connection with your body so that you can begin to listen to your inner authority.

When we don’t feel safe in our body, we can begin to disconnect and dissociate from the body. Feeling safe in your body is one of the first steps to beginning to honor your inner authority and trust in the direction of your life instead of trying to control it. For insights into what you need to feel safe in your body, look at the line of your SQ (unconscious Venus).

Another thing that I have found helpful in learning to follow my Inner Authority has been understanding the nuances in my design and how my Inner Authority acts in a unique way based on the channel(s) that defines it, the other center(s) it's connected to, and the circuitry.

In Human Design, Inner Authority is often taught in a "one-size fits all" way.

For example: All Sacral Authorities respond in the moment to yes and no questions and follow what lights them up. Splenic Authority listens to their intuition and Emotionals need to ride their wave before making a decision.

But what if you experience your authority in a different way? How could all inner authorities operate the same way when people who have the same authority can have totally different designs?

Not all Emotional Authorities operate the same way- each wave is unique and has a different experience of what “reaching clarity” looks like.

Not all Sacral Authorities will make Sacral noises- especially in the beginning of your experiment or if you have the 34-20 Channel of Charisma.  The Channel of Charisma does not make Sacral noises- it simply moves and takes action in response to what it’s lit up by.

A Ego-Projected Authority will operate differently than an Ego-Manifested Authority.

When actually applied, Inner Authority does not operate in the one-size-fits-all way that it is described in textbooks. There are so many nuances that can influence the way that your Inner Authority operates in real life.

These are the nuances of your Inner Authority:

  • The channel(s) that define it
  • The type of channel it is (generated, projected, or manifested)
  • The center(s) it's connected to through the channel(s)
  • The circuitry it belongs to

This is my Quantum Component Chart, which shows my unconscious, conscious, and quantum design.  As you can see, all 4 of my channels are defined half consciously/ half unconsciously, so I am an unconscious and conscious Reflector- it’s when my Design and Personality comes together that I am a Sacral Generator.

I also have a very wide split in my design.  I have a defined Head and Ajna which is disconnected from the rest of my definition in my Heart, Sacral, Spleen, and Root.

These 2 things- wide split and a half unconscious/ unconscious channel coming out of my Sacral- made it more challenging for me to connect with my authority.

I rarely experience my Sacral Authority as an immediate hell yes or hell no in the moment in response to something.  It takes me some time to recognize what my body is naturally feeling pulled towards.

How I experience my Sacral Authority is through witnessing what makes me feel satisfied and energized, when I feel in flow, and where my energy is naturally pulling me compared to when I’m feeling frustrated, experiencing a lot of external resistance, or am feeling energetically drained.

The channel that defines my Sacral is the 53-42 Channel of Maturation, which is the format channel for the Sensing (Abstract) Circuit.   It formats the Sensing Circuit with the energy of growth and development through cycles of experience. It's the channel of starting and finishing things.

With this channel being the one that defines my Sacral, a lot  of my decision making process has to do with when to enter into a new experience and when to let go of something/ knowing when something has come to an end.

To get clarity on what is in alignment for me, I often ask myself:

Am I entering into a new experience with expectations and an agenda? Am I clinging onto something from the past that is no longer supporting me? What are the lessons I've learned from past experiences about this?

These questions help me to feel into the wisdom of my Sacral through the Channel of Maturation.

I also give myself more space in making decisions, even though I am a Sacral Authority and have been told that I’m designed to make decisions in the moment.

For me, it takes more time for me to become aware of what my defined centers have to say because all of my channels are half conscious/ half unconscious.

Understanding the nuances within my design has given me the permission to break free of these one-size-fits-all approaches and really differentiate how I experiment with living my design.
