Nourishing Your Motivation + Outer Authority
One of my favorite things is spotting patterns in Human Design that seem to suddenly make something so much clearer to me. It’s like a new level of understanding and knowing has landed in my body.
This happened recently when I discovered the connection between Determination and Motivation.
I’ve known for a while that those with harmonic/ bridge Profiles (1/4, 2/5, 3/6, 4/1, 5/2 or 6/3) will always have Innocence Motivation and Appetite (consecutive or alternating) Determination, but I didn’t realize that this same connection can be found with other types of Determination and Motivation.
Because of the 88 degree angle from the Personality (everything in black on your chart) to the Design (everything in red on your chart), there is a precise calculation that can be used to determine what your Design Sun will be by subtracting 15 gates, 3 lines, 5 colors, 1 tone and 1 base from your Personality Sun.
For example, my Personality Sun is 54.6.3.3.2 (gate, line, color, tone, base). Above is a Chains Chart from Genetic Matrix, where you can see these deeper measurements below the gate and line of your Personality Sun.
When you count backwards 15 gates on the wheel from gate 54 you reach gate 32. Subtracting 3 lines from my 6th line Sun equals a line 3. However when I subtract 5 colors, 1 tone, and 1 base, it moves it to a 2nd line with a 4th color, 2nd tone, and 1st base below.
This is what makes my Design Sun, 32.2.4.2.1, which you can see in the Chain Chart above as well.
Because of this precise calculation, each Motivation can only be nourished by a specific Determination.
This is why bridge Profiles will always have a 1st Color Determination and 6 Color Motivation, because of this calculation from the Personality to the Design.
Bridge Profiles are very rare because there is only a short window of 2-3 hours per day that one of these Profiles can occur. The image above from Jovian Archive shows the percentage of people with each profile. Less than 14% of the population has a harmonic profile compared to 86% who have an un-harmonic profile.
Bridge Profiles are here to be role models of what’s like to live authentically as yourself. Because all harmonic profiles will have Innocence Motivation, they’re not motivated to take sides or get involved in everything. As a bridge, they can see both sides of things and aren’t here to try to lead anyone in a specific direction or to be influenced by anyone else. They are here to just be themselves. This is the most evolved motivation and shows us where we are going as a species.
Their Innocence Motivation is nourished by taking in food and information that has a solid foundation. This is about knowing your safe foods and sources of information. This is the most primitive digestive system that’s connected to levels of appetite and consuming simple ingredients that are nutrient dense and information that is reliable.
This same connection can be seen with all 6 Colors of Motivation and Determination. This connection shows us the importance of taking in food and information according to our Determination because you Motivation will never be able to fully express its brilliance as Outer Authority and you’ll likely find yourself in Transference more frequently.
Your Trajectory is also connected to your Motivation, which means it will also be impacted by your Determination.
Your Motivation comes from the Color below the gate and line in your Personality Sun + Earth and your Determination comes from the Color below the gate and line in your Design Sun + Earth. These are known as the Dependent Internal Variables, which means that they are internal processes and dependent on the Independent Variables (Environment and Perspective).
Motivation is about how your mind thinks, conceptualizes and makes sense of what you are seeing through your Perspective. Your Motivation is also connected to the development of your Outer Authority, which is the ability to have an impact on others through what you share when you are seeing through your aligned view and making sense of that in your unique way.
This is really how we can create differentiated value in the world. Everyone is designed to see things differently and then to make sense of that in a unique way. Unfortunately, most people are doing and creating from their transferred view and motivation, which will never have the same impact.
This really comes from not nourishing your uniqueness through first honoring your Determination.
Determination describes how you’re designed to take in and digest the world around you, including food and information. When you honor this, it nourishes you internally and feeds your aligned motivation. It also supports you in the movement along your Trajectory.
Each Motivation can only be nourished by a specific Determination:
Fear Motivation (1st Color) can only be feed by:
✨Alternating Appetite (5th or 6th tone)
✨Open Taste
✨Closed Taste (4th or 5th tone)
Hope Motivation (2nd Color) can only be feed by:
✨Closed Taste (5th or 6th tone)
✨Hot Thirst
✨Cold Thirst (4th or 5th tone)
Desire Motivation (3rd Color) can only be feed by:
✨Cold Thirst (5th or 6th tone)
✨Calm Touch
✨Nervous Touch (4th or 5th tone)
Need Motivation (4th Color) can only be feed by:
✨Nervous Touch (5th or 6th tone)
✨High Sound
✨Low Sound (4th or 5th tone)
Guilt Motivation (5th Color) can only be feed by:
✨Low Sound (5th or 6th tone)
✨Direct Light
✨Indirect Light (4th or 5th tone)
Innocence Motivation (6th Color) can only be feed by:
✨Indirect Light (5th or 6th tone)
✨Consecutive Appetite
✨Alternating Appetite (4th or 5th tone)
This shows the connection between the mind and the body and why it is so important to honor the form.
My Desire Motivation with Action Sense (3rd Color + 3rd Tone) and Leader Trajectory can only be nourished by my Calm Touch Determination and Taste Cognition.
When I take in food and information in calm spaces according to my taste, which shifts with the seasons, my motivation to get locked into something to create change and be a leader is nourished.
I also find it interesting when looking at the connection between Motivation and Determination that Active Determinations (Consecutive, Open, Hot, Calm, High and Direct) can only have 1 type of Motivation where the Passive Determinations bridge the 2 different types of Motivation and which one it’s connected to is dependent on the tone below the color.
